HomeSend

International Remittance and Mobile, a Perfect Match

The HomeSend service is a global hub service that provides, for the first time, a mobile-centric approach to international remittance. This represents a significant new step in mobile payment, and indeed the telecommunications industry, allowing any mobile service provider in any country to access the international remittance market.

HomeSend also enables airtime exchange services as well as roaming recharge services. As it allows to integrate the mobile wallet and top-up systems of two different operators, it is truly mobile centric from sender to receiver.

The service is fully compatible with any airtime top-up or mobile wallet system and any bearer (USSD, SMS, IVR, Web). A smooth integration with the mobile operator's systems is made possible through published API's. The platform is fully scalable and future proof. It is built on the latest IT standards (SOA, IP), and the service complies with emerging industry standards.

The connectivity between the mobile operator and the platform is ensured through the GPRS roaming exchange (GRX) network.

What are the benefits for mobile operators?

For the mobile operators, HomeSend enables:

  • their subscribers to transfer value (airtime or mobile money) to a foreign subscriber
  • their subscribers to receive value (airtime or mobile money) from a foreign subscriber
  • their subscribers to recharge their prepaid credit while abroad using a top-up product from a foreign operator (outbound roamers)
  • foreign subscribers to recharge their prepaid credit using the operatorís top-up products (inbound roamers)

HomeSend offers the advantages typically associated with a hubbing service and a managed service. It offers immediate reach to the whole world through a single technical and commercial interface with the hub as well as requiring limited opex and capex from the member operators.

Additionally, as already experienced with other mobile data services (such as SMS and MMS), once the market develops, mobile operators will have to manage multiple remittance relations and will therefore increasingly rely on a multilateral solution, such as HomeSend.
