BICS finalist for Best Wholesale Carrier in the World Communications Awards 2010

BICS has been nominated in the category 'Best Wholesale Carrier' for the annual World Communication Awards, one of the most prestigious global communications industry events of its kind.

The World Communication Awards recognise the companies and individuals behind the innovations, achievements and new services that are building the communications industry. The awards are open to all communications providers, including traditional carriers, service providers, content providers and other organisations providing communication services.

Criteria for the WCA’s Best Wholesale Carrier category in 2010 focused on innovative business models, successful partnering strategy and new technology deployments behind the most successful wholesale carrier business.

The winner will be announced on 24 November at a ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton in London.

BICS and G-Xchange sign agreement for international remittances

BICS and MTN complete the agreement to combine their international carrier services

Belgacom ICS (BICS) and MTN are pleased to announce the closing of the transaction which results in a combination of their international carrier services and MTN taking an equity stake in BICS. The agreement was announced on 26 June 2009 and received approval of all relevant government, regulatory and competition authorities in the meantime.
As of today, 1 December 2009, BICS will progressively integrate MTN ICS, MTN’s international wholesale subsidiary, and will act as the official gateway for carrier services of MTN globally. Belgacom will own 57.6% of BICS’ shares, Swisscom 22.4% and MTN 20.0% with a board representation.

Belgacom ICS and The RBS sign an MoU for facilitation of mobile remittances

Belgacom International Carrier Services (Belgacom ICS) and The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the facilitation of foreign currency exchange for mobile remittances. Belgacom ICS, a leading global provider of voice, data and value added services, are pleased to announce that they have signed an MoU with The Royal Bank of Scotland that will form the basis of a co-operation deriving mutual benefit from RBS's FXmicropay System and Belgacom ICS' HomeSend solution. Belgacom ICS’ HomeSend solution, built in partnership with eServGlobal, is the first mobile centric global hubbing service for international remittances, while RBS’s FXmicropay System enables efficient and secured foreign exchange transaction processing with limited currency exposure.

GSMA Expands Reach of Mobile Money Transfer Programme

The GSMA today announced new developments in its Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) programme, an initiative that leverages mobile to facilitate access to money transfer services. Complementing the successful alliance that has been in place with The Western Union Company for the past eighteen months, the GSMA has selected Belgacom International Carrier Services (Belgacom ICS) and its technology partner eServGlobal as a new remittance provider in the MMT programme. To add further flexibility for operators, the GSMA has also chosen the RBS Group, a global bank, as a remittance partner and is working with them to finalise the offering.

Belgacom International Carrier Services Certified as GSMA Compliant Roaming Hub

Belgacom ICS, a leading global wholesale carrier, today announced the successful completion of the self-certification process of its Open Connectivity Roaming Hub. With the Open Connectivity (OC) Initiative, the GSMA is looking for new ways to set up Interconnection and Roaming relationships between mobile operators through a hub as an alternative to implementing one-to-one roaming relationships across the world’s 750+ GSM networks. This follows the existing achievements of the Open Connectivity SMS Interworking Hub for which Belgacom ICS was the first to be certified. Thanks to the Open Connectivity SMS Hub, any mobile subscriber is now able to exchange two-way SMS’s with other subscribers connecting via other GSM networks.
