New SCION internet technology, built on BICS’ network, will deliver secure, sovereign internet solutions for enterprises and financial institutions.
Brussels – 5th February, 2026 – BICS, a Proximus Global Company, and leading international communications enabler, has partnered with Anapaya, the provider of SCION-based secure connectivity solutions for critical networks, to develop and deploy next-generation SCION internet technology on a global scale. Together, the companies will build this new type of networking into BICS’ global backbone, marking a significant step forward in secure, resilient, and sovereign, international connectivity.
SCION (Scalability, Control, and Isolation On Next-generation networks) is a new internet architecture, designed specifically with security and trust at its core. It empowers organizations with direct control over the paths traffic takes, ensuring compliance and preventing scenarios where domestic traffic unintentionally crosses national borders. Originally developed at ETH Zurich, SCION has already been adopted as the backbone of interbank communications in Switzerland and is rapidly gaining traction in highly regulated environments like financial services, utilities, and healthcare.
Yaunese Aazibou, CTO, Proximus Global, said: “SCION represents a paradigm shift in how the internet can be built and trusted. By partnering with Anapaya, we’re extending our legacy as a pioneer in secure enterprise connectivity — this time for fixed internet. Our goal is to establish SCION as the foundation for secure, high‑assurance connectivity, redefining how critical industries connect across borders.”
Through this partnership, BICS will offer SCION networking via its global backbone, with key points of presence planned in Belgium, France, Singapore, and the U.S. Acting as both a customer and a partner, BICS will combine its extensive international network footprint with Anapaya’s SCION routing software to accelerate the creation of a global SCION ecosystem that provides secure communications to large enterprises locally and internationally.
Martin Bosshardt, CEO of Anapaya said: “The attack landscape is rapidly deteriorating, with increasingly automated and AI-driven attacks achieving higher success rates and forcing organizations to rethink their internet security strategies. In many cases, the only viable option is to avoid exposing critical infrastructure to the public internet altogether. SCION provides the strongest protection currently available, already serving as the default standard for financial transactions in Switzerland and gaining adoption across healthcare and utilities. With partners like BICS, we are enabling a new, secure SCION infrastructure that allows critical services to remain accessible without being exposed to the risks of the open internet.”
This partnership underscores the growing demand for secure, sovereign internet solutions in an era where data security, cyber resiliency, and compliance are paramount. By leveraging SCION technology, BICS and Anapaya aim to redefine the future of global connectivity for critical industries.
